Lupita Nyong’o inspires women and girls around the world with her dazzling beauty, Ivy League sensibilities, Academy Award winning talent, and her endless drive to support women’s and children’s causes in the places where they are often most forgotten.
Ever A Dreamer
Born in March of 1983, Lupita Nyong’o was raised in Kenya by parents who inspired her to dream, and dream often.
She told Collective Hub that her mother made her and siblings create “dream boards” where they would list their short and long term goals.
She claims that this helped her to stretch her dreaming skills, and to put into practice the goals that would get her from her life in Africa to a life on the silver screen.
After starring in several films and a TV series, in the United States and Africa, she was cast in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, the role that so impressed members of the academy that she was awarded Best Supporting Actress, an award that made onlookers stand to their feet and remain there, offering her endless applause for giving an acceptance speech directed squarely at women and girls of color.
But Lupita has not let fame go to her head.
Lupita Nyong’o – Activist and Spokeswoman
She has worked closely with several organizations to support women and girls all over the world.
Lupita has repeatedly spoken out against abuse against women and girls, particularly in regions of the world where they are less likely to have access to any sort of medical care or defense.
Nyong’o is especially involved in Mother Health International, “…a collective of midwives, doctors, activists, and academics from around the world….[who] believe that access to quality healthcare is an essential human right.
Her work with Mother Health involved helping to reach remote villages in Africa, and other areas of the world, where traditional marketing campaigns might not reach them or even be relevant. She’s a firm believer in the right to healthcare which is the driving force behind the organization’s goals and Lupita’s own passion.
She recently became a Global Elephant Ambassador for WildAid.
Lupita’s beauty is truly from the inside out, and she is the kind of woman who we love to rave about. She’s an inspiration to all of us, and a true sign to women and girls that they have a cheerleader in their corner.
